Platform
The Dickenson County Democratic Party (“the Party”) adopts the following resolution, setting forth what it believes in and the platform on which candidates for public office should lead by.
WHEREAS, the Party shall always put the Lord Jesus Christ first in each and everything we do;
WHEREAS, the Party shall strive to create jobs and promote businesses, tourism, commerce, trade and industry;
WHEREAS, the Party believes creating good jobs for our citizens, so they do not have to leave the County in search of work, is a top priority;
WHEREAS, the Party does not believe in abortion and supports the effort to keep such procedures safe, while legal, but rare and only in the cases of incest, rape, and to protect the life of the mother;
WHEREAS, the Party believes that marriage is only between one man and one woman, as defined in the Virginia Constitution;
WHEREAS, the Party believes a person’s right to bear arms is a fundamental Constitutional right and should never be infringed upon;
WHEREAS, the Party believes in a strong national defense and that our Veterans’ be honored and respected for their sacrifices to our country;
WHEREAS, the Party shall always advocate for balanced budgets and keeping our citizens free of debt;
WHEREAS, the Party believes that maintaining and continuously improving the educational system is a top priority;
WHEREAS, the Party supports all efforts to raise the minimum wage and shall always be an advocate for the working class;
WHEREAS, the Party supports all efforts to decrease the rapidly-increasing costs of healthcare; and,
WHEREAS, the Party supports all efforts to improve the quality of life for all people;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, on this 12th day of April, 2007, that the Dickenson County Democratic Committee adopts the above as its “platform” from this point forward.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Secretary is directed to mail to each member and publish a copy of this resolution in the local newspaper.
